It is located just below the bladder and surrounds the urethra (urinary channel). 2 A cancerous tumour consists of cancer cells that can grow into nearby tissue and destroy it. The tumour can also spread to other parts of the body. This is known as metastasizing 3.
The risk for prostate cancer increases as men get older. Beginning at about age 45 all men should talk to their doctor about screening for prostate cancer 3,4. If you are of African descent or have a family history of prostate cancer, considering speaking to your doctor when you turn 40 5.
